Patrick Kenneally was born in Ballyporeen, Tipperary in 1841 just four years before the start of the potato famine. The family survived and he became a tenant farmer in Doon, South Tipperary. Records for the Townland of Doon and census data list the Kenneally family as tenant farmers throughout most of the 19th century. There are descendants still living in Doon.
Patrick and Catherine, his wife had 11 children of which 9 were still living at the date of the 1910 US census.
Two of the younger sons left Ireland. Jeremiah moved across the Irish Channel to Mountain Ash in South Wales at the turn of the 20th century and then to Lutonin Bedfordshire, whilst David sailed to New York in 1912 and settled in Chicago.
